Interview - - Good Wood NYC

We introduced Good Wood NYC to the world two weeks ago and requests for their custom wood rings are taking chunks out of the rain forest. We were fortunate enough to catch up with Good Wood founder Kerri O’Konnell, whose wooden craft fills the organic and creative niche that today’s bling’ed out self-conscious jewelry market failed to notice. Hit the “Read more” link to read the interview.

Info: Good Wood NYC

CJL: For everyone who’s not too familiar with Good Wood, give a brief explanation what it is, how it was started and by who?

GW: Good Wood is custom handmade multi-finger rings and nameplates cut from %100 wood. The concept was created during a random conversation on the boundaries of wooden jewelry. I decided I needed to see for myself if it could happen, Good Wood came out of it.

CJL: What is the normal process of making a custom ring for someone? Can you pretty much make anything from scratch?

GW: Pretty much. I’ve made several logos and personal designs. Most of the pieces I design myself. All I usually need is ring size and text and the process begins.

CJL: What was the most interesting piece you’ve made for someone?

GW: There’s interesting stories behind each piece. “Kid Toucher” has to be the most offensive so far. I’m working on the NYC skyline 4 finger joint right now, I think that takes the cake.

CJL: If customers want your product, where else is it available for purchase besides online through you?

GW: The online shop will be expanding soon. I’ve been spreading the word to shops and boutiques, but for now you can check out the events we sponsor. We will be at the upcoming Deadstock Kicks event on April 26th. You will be able to purchase and request custom orders on the spot.

CJL: Good Wood is a million dollar idea–with customization, possibilities are endless. What are some upcoming project you are working on? Any that you can give us a sneak peak on?

GW: You’ll want to check out the Ninja Sonik album when it drops. I’m doing a lot of new designs for the site and custom logos as well.

CJL: Since you have the whole accessory steez down, do you plan on branching out the company even further with clothing? Or are you going to stick to your roots?

GW: I have so many ideas and concepts running around me with the jewelry and accessories game, but I do see more than just rings and nameplates in the near future. No wooden T-shirts yet.

CJL: Since you are an accessory company your demographics are pretty wide. What direction do you want to go with your company?

GW: Aside from the streetwear/urban scene, I’ve been approached by all different types of people. The reaction all around is well-received. I’m up for anything, nuns, politicians…

CJL: Thanks for your time Kerri. If you want to shout out anyone, now’s the time. Stay tuned for more info on Good Wood NYC!

GW: Thanks to Ladi at FPC, my boys at Chief Mag.com, Lizzy, Dopeflicks, Deadstock Kicks, Ill prohibited, everyone for their support. Peace.
