  • Converse - - 1972 “What If” Pack

In 1972, the USA Basketball team breezed the the 1972 games with very little opposition, carrying at 63 game win streak since 1936. In one of the most controversial games of international basketball history, the US team lost despite having initially been declared the winners after what was thought to the final buzzer. Called as an error on the scorekeepers part, the Russians were allowed two attempts to win the game which they did 51-50. The 1972 “What If” pack is in honor of this game and features three different sneakers. The Converse “What If” sneakers will be available mid August at the House of Hoops and China only. Hit the link below for detailed pictures of this sneaker as well as the prices.

    Info: Converse

    Design
    • The back of the Pro Leather 1976 Hi and Ox shoes feature a gold imprint on the heel (Hi) and tongue (both shoes) to rightfully honor the ’72 USAB team with Gold.
    • The suede materials used in the pack are similar to what would have been on product at the time (early ’70s).
    • The graphics on the shoes are inspired by the unique and iconic look of the ‘72 games.
    • The sockliner of each shoe features an image of Lady Justice to represent the irony that justice was never served to the ’72 team.
