Closer Look: Mighty Healthy x DVS Huf Runner

Since 1995, DVS has been keepin’ skaters feet strapped with tough footwear, but more recently, this core skate label has tapped into the mainstream, highly due to their pro team skater Keith Hufnagel. His eye for design not only keeps his signature shoes in the limelight, but has led him to open HUF, his successful San Francisco sneaker/skate boutique. On the other side we have NYC indie clothing label Mighty Healthy, which rose to prominence in our dog-eat-dog industry in a few short years with the steady help of artsy, forward-thinking co-founder Ray Mate. So why would two men on opposite coasts work on this new black/gray/red Huf 5 Runner?
Credit skateboarding. Keith Hufnagel and Ray Mate have been skate buds since early childhood (read interview), and although Hufnagel is primarily known for his San Francisco presence, he and Ray actually grew up skating together in New York City. As we’ve all experienced in life, nothing lasts longer or has more meaning than an organic childhood relationship. Besides their entrepreneurial spirits and knack for business, passion is what ultimately bought these two gifted individuals together for this co-branded shoe, and that lasts a lifetime.
