BambooSk8 - %100 Bamboo Skateboards

November 18th, 2008 in Skateboarding by Lars

Thinking outside the classic 7-ply maple make-up, BambooSk8 manufactures decks completely out of…you guessed it, bamboo! Besides the eco-friendly aspect, bamboo boards are lighter, stronger, and have more pop than the classic set-up, not to mention all-natural style points. Visit BambooSk8 for a list of retailers and try one out for yourself. Better yet, sign up for their ‘Win Free Decks for a Year‘ Contest - all you have to do is enter! And don’t be fooled by the phonies, BambooSk8’s decks are made from %100 bamboo.

Slap Magazine December 2008 - Final Issue

November 18th, 2008 in Skateboarding by Lars

With all the benefits the digital world brings us - light speed information sharing being the cornerstone - it still has its drawbacks. The toll of the ‘net and the struggling economy brings another magazine to its knees, longtime skate mag Slap has released its final issue: December 2008. But the good news is Emerica pros Heath Kirchart gets the cover and Leo Romero gets a 14-page interview. Slap went down with a fight, and hey, it’s not completely over because their website is now the new place to catch up on all the news. And word on the street is their forum is the best out.

Tha Clinic: “Skate Stoppers”

November 14th, 2008 in Skateboarding by Lars

Skate stoppers are a skater’s worst nightmare. If you’re not familiar with the term, a skate stopper is a metal obstacle that is anchored or welded onto rails, ledges, or any other ‘natural’ skate terrain to prevent skaters from skating. Often private property owner’s and colleges put them up to keep skater’s off the premises or for ‘liability reasons’. Skate stoppers have evolved over time but skater’s are pretty handy and oftentimes still find a way to overcome them. Awhile back, The Skateboard Mag even featured an article on how to dissemble these pesky obstacles. Tha Clinic stumbled upon a skate stopper employee and videotaped just how the stoppers are installed - and yeah, in typical clueless fashion, the guy installing them just doesn’t get skateboarding. But the stoppers are ’selling like hotcakes’ and keeping him employed. Click HERE to watch the vid. Another spot down…

Mighty Healthy Fall ‘08 Decks

November 7th, 2008 in Skateboarding by Lars

Unlike the 24/7 perfect skate weather out in Cali, skaters here on the East coast gotta man up and shred through the winter, so it’s no surprise NYC skate-roots clothing label Mighty Healthy dropped their first-ever skate decks just in time for the cold weather. The deck pictured above features a popular graphic from MH’s Fall ‘08 Collection while the other two feature classic MH logos. View the other two below and expect these to drop soon. Shred Mighty!

Valter Vale Nearly Dies On Mega Ramp

November 6th, 2008 in Skateboarding by Lars

Apparently, surfer Valter Vale thought the mega ramp was like riding a giant wave. The only difference being the ramp is made of wood, he’s going over 30mph, he falls off the board and does an unplanned backflip, and comes inches away from snapping his neck or worse. Meanwhile, Bob Burnquist is hysterically laughing on the top of the ramp–quite a different reaction from the tear jerking scene he put on at theĀ  X-Games when he robbed Danny Way’s gold medal.
